Granny blankets are my favourite – simple, relaxing and no complicated pattern needed. So far this year I’ve made a giant granny square, granny ripple, granny star and granny corner to corner, so when I found another pattern for a granny blanket I was delighted! It was Sew Hooky’s ‘Granny Diamante’ blanket (@sewhooky on Instagram).
In her pattern she uses rainbow colours, so I decided to do the same. The yarn I used is Stylecraft Special DK in:
- Emperor
- Spice
- Sunshine
- Grass Green
- Turquoise
- Lobelia
- White
The pattern itself is really easy to follow and written in US terms. You make the central diamond shape first, before squaring off the corners in two steps. I finished with a row of of SC and then dug out my faithful clover pompom maker to add some pompoms to the corners.
The pattern recommends that you sew in your ends as you go, and I’m so glad I did! I added a few extra rows so that I had complete sections of each colour repeat, and the final size is 93cm square.
