Super chunky cowl and giant hook!

Lost my cro-jo for a while, I don’t think there was any particular reason for it but I’m very happy it’s back! I picked up a hook last night for the first time in weeks, deciding that I really really really need to start using up some of my stash.

A couple of months ago I got this Sirdar Gorgeous Ultra Super Chunky yarn, it’s 51% wool and 49% acrylic. It’s lovely and soft, and I love the dark grey charcoal colour. I have so much yarn stashed in various boxes and cupboards, but I didn’t have any of this – so I was powerless to resist!

The hook is handmade and I got it from Three Bags Wool , it has a different tip as this particular style was designed to use with the thrums they sell, but it worked just fine with this yarn.

The result was this cowl which only took a couple of hours to make. I chained enough so that when joined it for over my head, joined the chain with a slip stitch then did six rows of trebles. The yarn was easy to work with, although it did tear a couple of times when I made it into a ball (it comes as a hank).

This was the first time I’d crocheted with yarn thicker than chunky, and I’ll definitely try it again – I loved how quickly the cowl worked up, and really like the look of the stitches. Now into anther project!
